Sample Modal Analysis Files
PowerWorld Simulator’s Modal Analysis Tool, available with the Transient Stability Add-on, may be used to detect and analyze real and complex modes that occur in signals. Those signals may be read from a plot captured in a prior transient stability simulation, or loaded from an external file (which could represent signals generated from other software, SCADA/EMS data, or other source.)
Included here are examples of three different external source file types. They may be opened with any case. The topology of the loaded case need not match to analyze external signals.
All data contain 501 samples from t=0.0 to t=5.0, at a sampling interval of 0.01s.
Data Source Type |
Sample File Name |
Description |
| File, Comtrade CFF | Example-Comtrade.cff | Generator Speed at 4 generators |
| File, WECC CSV 2 | Example-WECC-CSV-2.csv | Bus Frequency at 4 buses |
| File, CSV (Data Starts Line 2) | Example-CSV.csv | Bus Frequency at 4 buses |
To load a file, open the Modal Analysis form from the Add Ons ribbon or the Modal Analysis page in the Transient Stability Analysis form. Choose the Data Source Type corresponding to the file you wish to load. Browse to the corresponding file. Click the button(s) for “Just Load Signals” and/or “Do Modal Analysis”. Once loaded, the Data Source Type will change to “None, Existing Data”. Only one set of data may be analyzed at a time.
