Hardware Key Connection Checklist

Common Setup Steps

  • Choose a Host Machine
Select a machine to host the network-enabled hardware key. This machine must be accessible over the network by all client machines that require access to the key.
  • Install HASP Drivers
Install the HASP drivers on both the host machine and all client machines. These drivers are included with the software patch downloads.
  • Optional: Using the License Tool Utility
The host machine does not need to have PowerWorld Simulator installed. However, if you wish to use the License Tool utility (e.g., to apply an update file or generate a fingerprint for support), the hardware key must be plugged into the machine where the utility is running, so it may be useful to have that available on the host machine.
  • Verify Setup
To confirm that the setup is functioning correctly:

    • On the host and each client machine, open the Sentinel Admin Control Center by navigating to:
      http://localhost:1947/_int_/devices.html
    • Look for a hardware key listed with Vendor ID 92727, which identifies a PowerWorld key.

Troubleshooting and Uncommon Setup Steps

  • Sentinel Admin Control Center Not Accessible
If the Sentinel Admin Control Center does not open:

    • Reinstall the HASP drivers.
    • Verify that the Sentinel LDK License Manager service is running.
  • Enable/Disable Hardware Keys
In your Simulator installation directory there are two Registry scripts to enable/disable hardware key discovery on that machine: EnableHardwareKeys.reg and DisableHardwareKeys.reg. If your machine appears to detect the hardware key correctly but Simulator is not unlocking with it, ensure hardware keys are not disabled locally.
  • Firewall Configuration
Ensure that port 1947 is open for both TCP and UDP communication between the host and client machines.
  • Manual Client Configuration
If automatic discovery fails, manually configure the client machines to locate the host machine for key access.
