Earth Resistivity Model for GIC Calculations
Updated February 8, 2022 with versions that do not contain dashes in the region set names
PowerWorld Simulator GIC can automatically incorporate scaling factors for geomagnetic latitude and earth resistivity according to NERC TPL-007-2 – Transmission System Planned Performance for Geomagnetic Disturbance Events (October 2017). The earth resistivity models must be loaded from an auxiliary file.
The following models are available:
- as described in TPL-007-2, Table 3: Geoelectric Field Scaling Factors (original version with dashes)
- as above, except with 10 regions within Alberta as described in GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF CANADA OPEN FILE 7906: Space Weather Hazard Assessment for Alberta (original version with dashes)
The files include scaling factors for both the Benchmark Event and the Supplemental Event.
