Simulated Impact of the April 8, 2024 Solar Eclipse on US Solar PV Generation
North America will experience a total solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Since the path of the eclipse crosses regions with large amounts of solar PV generation, Professor Thomas Overbye of Texas A&M University produced a video that shows the estimated impact of this eclipse on US PV generation. The simulations and visualizations were done using PowerWorld Simulator Version 23 (March 11, 2024 patch) with the solar generation based on EIA 860 information.
