The Contingency Definition Display lists the elements assigned to the selected contingency. This display appears on both the Contingency Tab and the View Results By Element page of the Contingency Analysis Dialog, it also appears on the Contingency Definition Dialog. This display is also used in a modified form when showing the Remedial Action Elements that are part of a Remedial Action.

Select Insert from the local menu to add elements to the contingency. Right-click on a specific element in the display and select Delete from the local menu to remove the element from the contingency.

The contingency definition display is a type of Case Information Display and shares many characteristics and controls common to all other case information displays.

The Contingency Definition Display contains the following fields when showing contingency elements and remedial action elements:

Actions

This shows a string that describes the action. You may customize the format of the string that describes the contingency actions by right-clicking on the Contingency Definition Display and choosing Display Descriptions By, and then choosing Name, Num, Name/Num, PW File Format by Numbers, PW File Format by Name/kV, PTI File Format, or Label.

See the Contingency Element Dialog topic for more details on the contingency actions that can be defined.

Model Criteria

This specifies a criterion under which a contingency action will occur. See the Contingency Element Dialog topic for more details.

Status

This field determines how an action is applied in the presence or absence of Model Criteria. See the Contingency Element Status topic for more details.

Persistent

This field determines if an action can be applied after it has already been applied. See the Contingency Element Dialog topic for more details.

Time Delay

This specifies the time to wait in seconds before an action is applied. See the Contingency Element Dialog topic for more details.

Comment

An optional user-specified comment string associated with the action. See the Contingency Element Dialog topic for more details.

The Contingency Definition Display is also used when showing Remedial Action Elements. This display will appear on the Remedial Action Definition dialog and when showing the Remedial Actions Display on the Options tab of the Contingency Analysis dialog. In addition to the fields listed above, the following fields are included:

Inclusion Filter

This is an advanced filter or device filter that determines if the remedial action element is applied with each contingency. See the Contingency Element Dialogtopic for more details.

Arming Criteria Added in Version 20

This specifies a criterion under which a remedial action element will be armed. See the Contingency Element Dialog topic for more details.

Arming Status Added in Version 20

This specifies how arming of the remedial action element is determined in the presence or absence of Arming Criteria. See the Contingency Element Dialog topic for more details.

Armed Added in Version 20

This specifies if the remedial action element is currently armed. This determination is made based on the present system state and might differ from how arming is determined during the contingency analysis process. Model Conditions and Model Filters have options that allow them to be disabled if they are true in the contingency reference state. These options are ONLY applied during the contingency analysis process and are not applicable when the value of the Armed field is determined.

In order for a remedial action element to actually be implemented, it must be armed based on its own criteria and the Remedial Action to which it belongs must also be armed. Remedial Actions have their own Arming Criteria and Arming Status that are described with the Remedial Action Definition dialog topic.
