D-FACTS Information Dialog

The D-FACTS dialog is used to modify and view the D-FACTS response characteristics.

To display this dialog, right-click on a D-FACTS record in the Model Explorer and choose "Show Dialog." The dialog can also be displayed from the Branch Options dialog by clicking the "D-FACTS Devices on the Line" button on the Parameters tab. All numbers of modules, impedances, and inductances shown are per phase.

See D-FACTS Display to view a complete list of the commonly used D-FACTS fields.

Calculated Values

Num Modules per Phase: The total number of modules per phase present and available on the line.

Total Available X per Phase: The total inductance per phase available on the line.

Present Value of Xinj: The actual inductance per phase that is presently being injected on the line.

I0: The minimum activation current.

Ilim: The maximum current for impedance injection. At this value, all available impedance is injected.

Present Value of Iline: The value of the line current presently on the line.

D-FACTS Profile

The D-FACTS Profile window shows the characteristic used in "Limit" mode to set the D-FACTS devices based on line current. This curve is determined based on Inductance per Module, Num Modules per Phase, I0, and Ilim. As line current increases between I0 and Ilim, a greater number of D-FACTS modules become active. When Ilim is reached, the total number of available modules are active.

Inputs Tab

The Inputs tab of the D-FACTS Information Dialog shows the common parameters required for defining a D-FACTS device record on the transmission line.

Direct Input of Characteristic Curve Parameters

Num Modules per Phase: The total number of modules per phase present and available on the line. The user can enter this value here.

Inductance per Module:The user can enter this value here. The default is 47 micro Henries. A value must be specified.

Activation Current I0: The minimum activation current. The user can enter this value, or it can be calculated from the Auto Configuration settings.

Max Current Ilim: The maximum current for impedance injection. At this value, all available impedance is injected. The user can enter this value, or it can be calculated from the Auto Configuration settings.

Auto Configure Characteristic Curve Parameters

These options allow the user to let Simulator determine the number of available modules automatically based on theMax Percentof Line X field. These options also allow Simulator to calculate values for I0 and Ilim based on the Percent of Line Rating field.

Control Info Tab

This tab shows options related to automatic control.  Automatic control of the D-FACTS on the line is performed within the voltage control loop of the power flow, where phase shifting transformers and LTCs are also handled. If automatic control is disabled for the D-FACTS on the line, the fields on the dialog will be grayed out. In this case, the operating point of the D-FACTS devices is not determined by the limit characteristic but is determined by the control objective.
