Contingency Options: Auxiliary Files

Options for specifying auxiliary files that can be loaded as part of the contingency process can be accessed from the Modeling group of the Contingency Analysis dialog Options page. These options provide a means of specifying the auxiliary files that can be applied to all contingencies.

Post Contingency Auxiliary File

The auxiliary file specified here is loaded at the start of each contingency prior to actually implementing the contingency actions. If a contingency has its own post-contingency auxiliary file specific to that contingency, the contingency-specific file will be loaded instead. This file is applied before any contingency-specific solution options are applied. The contingency actions are then implemented after any contingency-specific solution options are applied. In this way, very specialized post-contingency settings can be specified. An example use of this feature could be changing the generator voltage setpoints or AVR status for the post-contingency solution or changing generator AGC status for the post-contingency.

If the file specified does not include a file path, then Simulator will look in the presently active directory, otherwise the file path specified will be used. If the post-contingency AUX file cannot be found in this location, then Simulator will look to see if a file by this name exists in the directory from which the presently loaded case was read. If a file is specified and still cannot be found, then when running the analysis from the contingency analysis dialog, Simulator will show a dialog requesting you to find the file or remove the option.

Instead of specifying a file here, a string containing script commands can be used instead. Multiple script commands can be separated by semi-colons. This will allow the same functionality without requiring a file to be present.

Only data stored with the contingency reference state will be "reset" when the reference state is restored. Therefore, only data stored with the reference state should be loaded via a post-contingency auxiliary file. Click here for details on the specific information stored with the reference state.

This file is only loaded when the power flow is being solved in AC power flow mode and the Full Power Flow Calculation Method is being used.

Post Contingency Solution Auxiliary File Added in Version 20

The auxiliary file specified here is loaded after contingency actions have been implemented and the power flow has been run. This file will be loaded for every contingency. This file is useful for saving customized results that are not normally saved with the built-in options for saving results.

If the file specified does not include a file path, Simulator will look in the presently active directory, otherwise the file path specified will be used. If the file cannot be found in this location, Simulator will look to see if a file by this name exists in the directory from which the presently loaded case was read.

Warning - This file will be loaded when solving contingencies with any Calculation Method and any power flow solution mode. If using one of the linear methods or solving in DC power flow mode, the contingency reference state will not be restored between contingencies. Any changes that are made to the system state when loading this auxiliary file will carry through into the next contingency solution. The intention of this file is to save custom results and not make changes to the system state.
