Contingency Element Type: Series Capacitor

The following describes the options available when creating a contingency element of type Series Capacitor. Contingency elements are created from the Contingency Element Dialog, and additional details of how to create contingency elements can be found here.

 

Action Settings

Bypass

The Bypass action will change the Bypass Status of the selected series capacitor to Bypassed if the Bypass Status is Not Bypassed. If the Bypass Status is already Bypassed, this action does nothing.

If the series capacitor Bypass Status is not already Bypassed, an explicit breaker is found in parallel with the series capacitor, and the Status of the series capacitor is Closed, the breaker will be closed instead of changing the Bypass Status.

Inservice

The Inservice action will change the Bypass Status of the selected series capacitor to Not Bypassed if the Bypass Status is Bypassed. If the Bypass Status is already Not Bypassed, this action does not change the Bypass Status.

If an explicit breaker is found in parallel with the series capacitor and the Status of the series capacitor is Closed, the breaker will be opened instead of changing the Bypass Status.

Set To

The Set To action will set the series reactance of the series capacitor to a specified Amount. The reactance may be set in X (percent) or X (per unit). If the reactance of the series capacitor is set in X (percent), the per unit reactance is set to the specified percent of the per unit reactance of the series capacitor in the reference state. If the reactance is set in X (per unit), the per unit reactance of the series capacitor is set to the specified amount.
