Contingency Category
Contingency categories can be defined with both steady-state contingencies and transient stability contingencies. Categories are often used to group contingencies by monitoring criteria and that is the reason they have been added to Simulator. Steady-state contingency categories will be used to determine which Custom Monitors will be active for a contingency. Transient stability contingency categories will be used to determine which Transient Limit Monitors will be active for a contingency. Both Custom Monitors and Transient Limit Monitors have associated categories that can be assigned with them.
Categories within Simulator are simply user-specified text. There are no set categories that Simulator defines. More than one category can be assigned to a contingency, Custom Monitor, or Transient Limit Monitor. They are entered as comma-separated strings in relevant fields with these objects.
Contingency Analysis Categories
Categories with steady-state contingencies determine which Custom Monitors will be active for a contingency. If no categories are specified for a contingency, all Custom Monitors will be active for a contingency. If a Custom Monitor does not have any categories specified, it will apply to all contingencies. Otherwise, a Custom Monitor will only be active if it has at least one category that matches one of the contingency's categories.
Transient Stability Analysis Categories
Categories with transient stability contingencies determine which Transient Limit Monitors will be active for a contingency. If no categories are specified for a transient contingency, all Transient Limit Monitors will apply for a transient contingency. If a Transient Limit Monitor does not have any categories specified, it will apply to all transient contingencies. Otherwise, a Transient Limit Monitor will only be active for a transient contingency if it has at least one category that matches one of the transient contingency's categories.
