New in Simulator Version 8.0

PowerWorld Retriever was selected as the visualization platform for NERC's ambitious Situational Awareness for NERC, FERC, and Regional entities (SAFNR Version 2). The project will produce a nationwide real-time power grid reliability monitoring site in NERC's Electricity Sector Information Sharing and Analysis Center. (more info)

Join the PowerWorld Users Group on LinkedIn. The group is a forum for networking and discussion for users of PowerWorld Simulator, Retriever, and OPS-X software. There is also a sub-group just for those who are members or participants in WECC. The first WECC-sanctioned PowerWorld Users Group meeting is planned for August 23, 2011.

FirstRate™ generator cost models are now available for FERC 715 cases corresponding to the April 2011 filings (MMWG and ERCOT). The WECC edition is available for the April 2010 filings. FirstRate™ helps harness the power of Simulator OPF. Download free samples.

PowerWorld Simulator 15 has been released, featuring available Transient Stability and Distributed Computing add-ons. A free educational version with Transient Stability tutorial examples is available for download.

Harness the power of multiple processors and network resources with available Distributed Computing add-ons. Distributed Contingency Analysis and Distributed ATC are now available.

PowerWorld Corporation recognizes PwrSolutions, an affiliate of PB Power, as an outstanding provider of consulting services and solutions using PowerWorld software.

City Water, Light & Power (Springfield, IL) was awarded an Example of Exellence by NERC for using PowerWorld Retriever to enhance System Situational Awareness.

  • Added linear power flow solution technique to contingency analysis (DC power flow)
  • Automated Line Tapping
  • Automated Bus Splitting
  • Automated Equipment Transfer
  • Scale generation or load by injection group
  • Automated LODF Calculations

Along with enhanced abilities and tools, Version 8.0 continues PowerWorld Corporation’s singular dedication to creating powerful analysis software that is easy to use. We’ve included several new features that make navigating and interpreting the results of your analysis easy. We’ve also added the ability to read and write all data within Simulator from a single auxiliary file format.

  • Wildcard searching has been integrated throughout the entire program allowing you to quickly find the information you desire.
  • Numerous enhancements to the Contingency Analysis tool aid in the interpretation of contingency results.
  • New case information displays to show the MW Transactions, Jacobian, Y-bus, Advanced Filters, and more… You can also zoom in on a case information display.
  • A new toolbar providing you with quick access to common case information actions
  • New auxiliary file format that integrates all data within Simulator into a single text file format.
  • New equipment identification tool enables you to refer to system equipment using your company-specific names.

Simulator’s trademark one-line diagrams continue to provide you with insight into your analysis results in seconds. We’ve added a number of features that will make the creation of these diagrams easier.

  • Auto-insertion of switched shunt objects
  • Custom display detail helping you hide information on the diagram quickly
  • Record a movie from a series of Simulator diagram images.

Simulator’s engineering analysis algorithms continues to improve as well.

  • Improved Power Flow Convergence Techniques
  • Improved DC line modeling and convergence techniques
  • Advanced LODF Calculations
  • New models for three-winding transformers, multi-terminal DC lines, and series capacitors
  • Conditional contingency actions allow you to create contingencies containing events that are conditional on the pre-contingent state of your power system.
